Kiawamururu is part of the Rumuki Farmers Co-op Society, and is located just outside of Mukurweini, which is about 30 minutes by car, south east of Nyeri. The 500+ active members grow their coffee in the fertile soils of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges at altitudes averaging 1500 masl.
Cherries are picked and delivered on the same day, then weighed, sorted and pulped within hours of leaving the farms. Water for the pulpers is channeled in from the local river, saving money on electricity, fuel and labour. The water then goes through soak pits before being returned to the river, and pulp is returned to the farmers to be used as fertilizer.
This is our first time buying this coffee, and by the looks, and taste of things, it won’t be our last.
Soft floral aroma, great structure and balanced acidity with flavours of red apple and apricot.
